A CYCLIST is planning to ride the length of Africa for charity. Next month, Steve McInerny, from Easby, near Richmond, will fly to Cairo ready to pedal 7,000 miles from Egypt to South Africa.
Mr McInerny, 28, said: "I've been a keen mountain biker since riding and racing all around Yorkshire and the North-East as a teenager.
"This expedition was too tempting to pass up. Travelling by bike will be an exhilarating and rewarding way to take in Africa."
Money raised through sponsorship will go to the World Wildlife Fund and Starfish, a South African Aids charity.
Mr McInerny, who works for the Natural History Museum in London, will join four South African friends who have already left Trafalgar Square to cycle across Europe.
