A SUCCESSFUL sports company is allowing youngsters to learn a variety of specialist activities while increasing their confidence and fitness.
SportsCoach, part of the Stagecoach Theatre Arts organisation, operates in two schools during term-time, teaching classes including fencing, archery and American football.
Jeff Hindmarch, of Sportscoach, said that since coming to the region a year ago interest had really taken off, with more than 60 youngsters taking part in the sessions at weekends.
"The classes not only develop the children's sporting abilities, but also improve their confidence and their ability to work in a team," he said.
"For many children in the infant and primary age range it is the first taste of real sports that they get because PE in school for these age groups can often not be very far-reaching."
SportsCoach is based at Hummersknott School and Language College, in Darlington, and at Conyers School, in Yarm.
It has qualified coaches who have undergone extensive police checks under child protection requirements.
Any child from the area can take part in the sessions.
A summer workshop will take place at Conyers School from August 23 to 27. Regular sessions will begin again on September 18.
