A MUSIC academy is celebrating a £6,256 grant that will pay for instruments.
The money from the Local Network Fund for Children and Young People will be spent on six saxophones and two violins by Seaham Music Academy, which gives instrument tuition to aspiring musicians of all ages.
The academy meets on each term-time Saturday morning at East Durham and Houghall Community College's Londonderry Dene House, in Harbour Walk, Seaham.
There are vacancies for flute, violin, viola, cello, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, cornet, baritone and other brass instruments and saxophone for the coming term, which starts on September 11, at 9am.
The academy also runs a Kindermusic class for children aged four upwards that aims to introduce children to the musical elements of pitch, rhythm and time in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Anyone who wants to join the academy can get more information by calling Jim Bagley on 0191-513 0378 after 6pm, or at weekends.
