FARMERS are being urged to challenge land the Government has classified as moorland, which will affect hill farm incomes.
Land categorised as moorland will attract the lowest level of the new Government Single Payment, which replaces livestock and arable subsidies.
Until September 27, farmers can check which land has been classified as moorland to see if mistakes have been made.
The Country Land and Business Association's (CLA) Yorkshire director, Dorothy Fairburn, said: "Many hill farmers may not have been too concerned about where the lines were drawn, nor could they do much about it.
"But now there is an opportunity, until the September 27 deadline, to move the boundary. Land categorised as moorland will attract the lowest rate of payment, so it makes a lot of sense to check if there is land that is no longer moorland or has been mistakenly included."
Advice is available from the CLA on (01347) 823803.
