POLICE were last night becoming increasingly concerned for an elderly Alzheimer's disease sufferer who is missing from home.
Alan Richmond, 78, was last seen by staff in Darlington's Asda supermarket, in Whinbush Way, at about 8am on Tuesday.
His son alerted police after finding Mr Richmond's Sparrow Hall Drive home, in the Whinfield area, empty.
Mr Richmond, who also suffers with high blood pressure, is 5ft 10in, slim, with grey hair.
It is not known what he was wearing, but police said a long blue raincoat was missing from his home. He is usually smartly dressed, in a collar and tie.
Mr Richmond used to run a van hire company in the town and is a familiar face at the workingmen's club in Northgate.
He has been on medication, but is not thought to have any with him now.
Inspector Billy Hugill, of Darlington police, said: "We are very concerned for Mr Richmond's welfare.
"While he's very active for his age, we understand his Alzheimer's has become worse in the past month or so."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Darlington police on (01325) 467681.
