VISITORS to York Minster will get the opportunity to see its stonemasons at work today.
The minster stoneyard is holding a free open day. There will be displays by the minster masons, carvers and carpenters, who will demonstrate the traditional crafts used in the continual scheme of restoration of the building.
There will also be opportunities to visit the master mason's setting-out shop and the plaster cast museum.
Visitors will be able to see the plaster casts of elaborate carvings from all over the minster, including the casts of carvings from the Genesis cycle on the Great West Doors, which were completed in 1998.
The stoneyard will be open from 9.30am to 3pm.
