SOMNUS made history for American jockey Gary Stevens on Sunday, landing the Prix Maurice de Gheest in fine fashion and at rewarding odds of 12-1 to give the rider his first French Group 1 victory.

It was a second Group 1 win for Tim Easterby's star as he landed last year's Sprint Cup at Haydock - and is aimed to re-take it in September.

Hints of the Great Habton yard's well-being came on Thursday with Mrs Moh and Saturday with Young Mr Grace, both winners at Haydock under David Allan.

Joe Fanning partnered Mister Monet to his first Pattern success, landing the Petros Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock on Saturday, a Group 3 event. The Middleham pair made most and this fine example of front-running showed the jockey in his best light.

Fanning had earlier partnered a Nick Littmoden winner in the sprint and went on to Ayr to take a third for the day, riding Royal Indulgance for Shropshire trainer Mark Brisbourne. Sunday saw him win at Leicester for an in-form Kevin Ryan and Monday for James Bethell at Thirsk.

Kingsley House superstar Attraction is due to run on Sunday in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville, but this week, with the ground in France altering greatly, her trainer Mark Johnston warned that he would have to look at the course before committing the filly.

Scott's View, one of the stable's stalwarts, is out for the rest of the season having injured a tendon when running fourth at Munich recently. Gateman will not now run in the Arlington Million in America, the trainer said, as he has a few niggling little problems.

Kelly Harrison, amateur rider and secretary to David Nicholls, rode her second winner last week, partnering Lord Chamberlain for Gloucester trainer Milton Bradley in the ladies' race at Chepstow on Thursday.

Dandy himself sent out two winners this week, including landing the Bath sprint for the third year running, this time with Atlantic Viking, partnered by the in-form Robert Winston.

Kirstin Stubbs, apprentice daughter of Linda Stubbs, won for Bill Tinning at Redcar on Sunday when the Thornton le Clay handler had the one-two in the stayers' race, the favourite Life Is Beautiful under Tom Eaves being beaten by Kirstin on Righty Ho. Mrs Stubbs herself had a winner, thanks to Paul Hanagan on Double Ransom.

On the jumps front, Stuart Wood sent out his own homebred Ramblees Holly to win at Sedgefield, where Middleham man Micky Hammond took a double.
