ROUND Table members have raised £3,500 for children's hospice Zoe's Place, in Normanby High Street.

The members, from Guisborough Round Table, walked up England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, as well as Helvellyn and The Old Man of Coniston, to raise the money.

The team, who completed the challenge in one day, were helped by Simon Bailes Peugout, of Middlesbrough which supplied a support van enabling the team to put more money in the pot for Zoe's Place.

Alan Milburn, from the Round Table, said: "We raised the money by sponsors guessing the number of steps taken to walk the three hills - a bit like guess the weight of the cake but with a little more sweat!"

The team took 34,379 steps and four people all guessed the same nearest figure.

They were invited along to a prize drawing evening where they drew their own prize in a random blind draw.

The winners of the Guess the number of Steps competition were Mrs J Wilkinson, of Eston, who won a pamper day at Gisborough Hall, Guisborough; Miss W Clark, of Guisborough, who won a weekend for two at Grinkle Park Hotel and a DVD player; Miss T Warwick, of Redcar, who won a DVD player and 14 DVD movies; and C McAllister, of Redcar, who won an integrated television and video player.

Guisborough Round Table's chairman Mike Toshach presented a cheque for £3,500 to Mark Guidery, from Zoe's Place, which provides care for children with health problems up to the age of five, and gives parents a much needed break.

It is one of only a small number in the country and caters for four babies or young children at any one time.
