A LIBRARY will take part in a Europe-wide celebration of bats later this month.
Two events are being staged at Durham's Clayport Library to mark European Bat Week.
Children aged five to eight are invited to learn "bat crafts", making a mobile, pen-holder or bookmark, or to try their hand at a bat-related word game.
The craft event is on Saturday, August 21, from 10am, and tickets are available for £1 from the library, in Millennium Place, Durham, on 0191-386 4003.
Meanwhile, members of the Durham Bat Group will stage a Battitudes show at Clayport on Wednesday, August 25, from 2pm.
The computer-illustrated quiz, which is free and suitable for all, takes visitors through key issues related to bats.
Group members promote the conservation and study of bats throughout the county, which is inhabited by 11 species.
Bats are protected and it is unlawful to disturb them. Anyone with concerns over bat colonies can call (01661) 842695.
