Children have spent a week exploring their community and creating artworks based on their experiences.
The activity programme for children in South Moor, Stanley, was run jointly by the South Moor Partnership and Groundwork West Durham at the Stanley Young People's Club.
Those taking part were able to take a close look at the creatures and plants living in the newly-renovated Eastfields/Westfields Doorstep Green, behind the Young People's Club, and across the area.
They also had the opportunity to try willow weaving, silk painting, glass painting, clay modelling and mosaic to represent the creatures and plants they found. The artwork will be used as part of the design for an entrance feature to the Doorstep Green.
Susan Rose, of Groundwork West Durham, said: 'This was a fantastic opportunity for the children and young people of South Moor to take a look at the positive aspects of their local environment, and to enjoy trying out different forms of artwork."
The children also gave their views on what they would like for the future of the area and held a supervised mock election.
This programme was run with funding from the Children's Fund, the South Moor Partnership, NOF, Restore, ERDF, Neighbourhood Management and Better Play.
