Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League: Tynedale were disappointed that their match at Lintz was a casualty of the weather and even more so when they heard that Ashington's game against Shotley Bridge was going ahead.
In the event though it did not matter since Ashington lost and gained only four points - the same number they would have achieved had their game been cancelled.
Tynedale are still in pole position but their advantage has been trimmed by a couple of points and Leadgate are now second following their defeat of Annfield Plain. It was Shotley Bridge who took the honours in another rain-affected programme.
They started the day in a relegation place but upset the form book winning at Ashington by 34 runs.
Their hero was Peter Collingwood who ended unbeaten on 102 out of a total of 196-5 which proved too big a target for the Colliers.
David Rutherford raised hopes with a half-century but David Jackson and Neil Burdon both took three wickets at economical cost as Ashington were bowled out for only 162.
Leadgate have steadily moved up the table and are now second for the first time this season.
In a game dominated by bowlers, Masood Mirza captured four wickets for 27 runs as Annfield Plain stuttered to 99-6 which included 31 from David Baxter.
Paul Hutchinson (32) and Fletcher with 48 appeared to have put Leadgate into an unassailable position when they formed a first-wicket partnership but when it was broken, wickets tumbled and six went down by the time a matchwinning 101 was achieved.
Aldo Van den Berg and David Maughan shared five of the wickets.
Swalwell just about erased any danger of relegation when they romped to a nine-wicket win over Newcastle City at Derwenthaugh.
Malcolm Clarke and Jim Smith both took four wickets reducing City to only 127 before Stephen Humble (45) and Paul Dumigham with an undefeated 48 swept Swalwell home.
Whickham are all but relegated after only one season back in the top flight.
Naz Rashid and Graeme Angus shared six wickets reducing the hosts to 121 and although Whickham claimed five wickets, Van Vuuren steered Benwell and Walbottle to victory with an unbeaten half-century.
In Division A2 Burnopfield moved to within three points of leaders Ponteland.
Marcus Peart (33), Ryan McVittie (44) and Scott Hall (45) led Burnopfield to an impressive 218-8 in 50 overs at home to Consett who were restricted to 157.
Jack Chapman hit four sixes and six fours in 60 and the experienced Gordon Hunter finished unbeaten on 31 with Stuart Atkinson returning 4-14 and Adam Tinnion 3-26 in the Burnopfield attack.
The only other game to be played was at Ponteland who were all out for 54 against Backworth for whom Ian Stubbs claimed 4-26 while Tim Brown took four wickets for a mere seven runs.
Batting first, Backworth managed only 104 with Lloyd Anderson and Duncan McGregor sharing seven wickets but the modest total proved more than sufficient.
