ALLOTMENT holders in Darlington held an open day as part of National Allotment Week.
Ann Foster, chairwoman of the Glebe Road Allotments Association said the event was held to promote allotment gardening.
"We wanted to promote allotments as a great way to exercise and get people eating more fresh fruit and veg," she said.
"We had face-painting, a jumble stall, and sold some produce. I think everyone enjoyed themselves, and we had a barbecue afterwards."
The association is also trying to project a new image of allotment gardening as something that appeals to both sexes and families.
Leftover produce was donated to a care home after the event.
The 45 allotments at Glebe Road are taken, but anyone wanting to go on the waiting list can contact Mrs Foster on 07816 191023.
