BUSINESSES on an industrial estate claim nuisance car-parkers are causing a safety hazard by clogging up roads.
Lorry drivers turning into the York Road Industrial Estate, Malton, particularly at Derwent Road, are faced with daily problems.
Cars double parked at both sides of the road mean that large lorries - often pulling 40ft trailers - have difficulty manoeuvring through the narrow gap.
Lorry drivers also have to wait for traffic to pull out of Derwent Road into York Road before they can turn in because the road is so constricted by the parked cars.
Katie Dennis, of Dennis Distribution, which was founded in Ryedale more than 80 years ago, said: "I'd like to see the whole of the estate have double yellow lines.
"Two vehicles on either side take half the road up, so there's only space for one in-between. There's no room for two vehicles to pass each other.
"Our drivers are having to wait, hanging over the junction, for cars to come up. The trailers take up the majority of the road and a queue of traffic builds. It's really, really dangerous."
Dennis Distribution's insurers have already paid out several hundreds of pounds after lorries hit and damaged parked cars on two occasions.
The company has sent letters highlighting the dangerous situation to the district and county councils as well as the police.
