THE streets of a North-East town were brought alive with a splash of colour as the end of a popular festival drew to a close.
For the past week, performers from across the globe have entertained the crowds as part of the 40th Billingham International Folklore Festival.
On Saturday, the festival was brought to a rousing finish with a parade through the Billingham town centre, followed by a firework performance later in the evening.
Joe Maloney, festival director, said: "I have been associated with the festival for more than 30 years and I can honestly say, without a shadow of doubt, this was the best."
Groups arrived on Teesside from Mexico, Latvia, France, Panama and the Ukraine among others, and, despite the rain, spectators turned up in their thousands during the week to watch performances.
Keith Proud, from the festival, said: "It has been the best week yet, despite the weather, which you simply cannot let bother you."
Plans are now being prepared for next year's festival.
Mr Proud said organisers like to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer at the festival.
He said: "There is already a dedicated team of number of volunteers, but we are looking for people to come forward to help in some way and to add to those numbers."
Anyone who would like to become involved is asked to contact (01642) 553220.
