A PENSIONER was seriously injured after a collision with a car yesterday.
The woman, in her 80s, was crossing the road at traffic lights when she was struck by a Citroen Picasso car. The accident happened at about 10.10am in Consett, County Durham, at the junction of Sherburn Terrace and Delves Lane.
Paramedics took the woman, from Consett, to the University Hospital of North Durham, where she was last night being treated for a suspected fractured skull, neck injuries and a broken leg. Her condition is serious.
The Citroen driver, a north-west Durham man in his 50s, was uninjured.
PC Kevin Kitson, of Durham Constabulary's accident investigation unit, said the traffic lights had been at green. He is urging witnesses, or anyone with information, to call police on 0191-375 2159.
