Police have named a North-East man who was killed in a hit and run smash as he walked to a cash machine.
They said 51 year old Ray Thompson from Acklam in Middlesbrough died when he was struck by a Rover 25 car on Monday.
Mr Thompson was married and had teenage children - and Cleveland Police said his family "have taken the devastating news as a massive shock.''
A Force spokeswoman said: "Mr Thompson left his home address to visit a cash machine and possibly with a view to going socialising locally.''
Police have interviewed three men from the Stockton area in connection with the tragedy which happened on Acklam Road, Middlesbrough, on Monday night.
Two have since been released unconditionally, the third, a 19 year old, remains in custody to be questioned further.
The red Rover 25 which struck Mr Thompson was seen to travel along Acklam Road then turned on to Mandale Road and head towards Thornaby. It was later found abandoned in Ingleby Barwick.
Officers are keen to speak to the male driver of a light blue or silver-blue Peugeot 106 which was on Acklam Road at around 9.45pm on Monday night - the time of the collision - to come forward.
A Force spokesman said: "This driver may be an important witness and he or anyone else who saw Mr Thompson walking on Acklam Road or the collision itself is asked to contact PC Mark Lightfoot from Cleveland's Road Policing Unit on (01642) 301552.''
