The father of a young bride, who was shot dead in her home more than two weeks ago, was arrested last night in connection with her murder following a huge manhunt.

Terry Rodgers, 55, was in custody after hundreds of officers spent four days searching woodlands in Nottinghamshire for the fugitive.

He was named as the prime suspect in the murder of Chanel Taylor, 23, whose body was discovered by her new husband in the home they shared in Huthwaite.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Cottee, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Following today's search, I can confirm that 55-year-old Terence Rodgers, the man wanted for questioning in connection with Chanel Taylor's murder, was arrested at just after 5.30pm this evening.

"During a major search operation in the defined area, he was arrested by armed police officers and has been taken to an undisclosed police station in the county where he will be examined by a police surgeon."

Mr Rodgers was the second murder suspect arrested as part of Operation Rendition, during which more than 400 officers searched areas around Sherwood Forest.

On Saturday night, 42-year-old Robert Boyer was captured in a make-shift den and was being questioned last night over the murder of former miner Keith Frogson in a separate incident.

Last night, Superintendent Stuart Wright told a press conference: "Operation Rendition has been running from the early hours of Friday August 13 and will conclude today.

"I would like to thank members of the public and the media for their support.

"My special thanks go to the police officers and police staff of this force and others, who have worked tirelessly."

Mr Rodgers disappeared the day after the shooting on July 30.

His car was found abandoned in Hucknall the following day, and witnesses reported seeing him in the area.

He had given his daughter away at her wedding to Lee Taylor only seven weeks before her death.
