A man who gave himself up to rape inquiry detectives has been interviewed and released on police bail.
The 23-year-old Middlesbrough man had walked into South Bank police station, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, in connection with the alleged rape of a 13-year-old in a Middlesbrough back street at the weekend.
The teenager, who is from Eaglescliffe, said she was attacked in a doorway in Elliot Street, Middlesbrough, after socialising with a girl friend, also aged 13, in the Purple Onion public house on Saturday night.
The youngster had told her mother she was sleeping-over at a friend's house.
