EVERY household in Marske and New Marske is be contacted by assessors wanting to make their homes better insulated.

The assessors from Redcar and Cleveland Warm Zone, a Government-backed project that fits free home insulation for householders spending more than a tenth of their disposable income on fuel bills, will be contacting residents over the next three weeks.

About 3,200 homes in the area were built in the 1960s and 1970s, and about ten per cent are more than 80 years old.

Warm Zone manager Lorraine Dobson said a lot of homes in the area would need their insulation levels checked to make sure they meet present standards.

"Redcar and Cleveland Warm Zone is gathering important information on the energy-efficiency of all homes in the district to help the local council guide important energy policies over the next few years," she said.

"So even if people feel they will not qualify for free insulation it is still important their home is assessed.

"By answering our simple questions when we call you, you can do your bit to safeguard the environment."

She said her staff would not ask for money or canvass by telephone.

"Our representatives are easily recognisable by their distinctive red jackets," she said.

A display about the Warm Zone's work is at Marske Library from this week.
