A DISABLED man was robbed by a thief who forced his way into his home and demanded money.
The 57-year-old man, who has suffered numerous strokes, was in his bungalow in Holyrood Lane, Middlesbrough, at about 10am on Monday when the intruder forced his way in through the locked front door.
He threatened the man while demanding money.
The intruder disconnected a phone line which links the man's home to a warden and began to search the rooms.
He took a small amount of money from the man's wallet and remained in the house for 15 minutes, continuing to make threats and pulling open drawers and cupboards in search of valuables.
The intruder is believed to be in his late teens, about 5ft 10ins, thin and was wearing dark clothing and a woollen hat.
Police have carried out house-to-house inquiries in the area and inquiries are continuing.
Detective Constable Evan Kirtley, from Middlesbrough CID, said: "This was a sick incident involving a vulnerable and defenceless man who should have felt safe and secure in his own home.
"I would urge anyone who recognises the identity of the man responsible to come forward in complete confidence so we can bring him to justice."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on (01642) 303126.
