CONSUMER watchdogs in the North-East have issued a warning about an unsolicited advertising campaign promoting a prize draw.
The promotion, originating from Holland, is from a company called LLN. It tells householders they have been specifically contacted to receive a substantial prize.
If the first letter fails to bring a response, another is sent encouraging the recipient to respond within 48 hours.
The letters, which also include direct debit mandates, have been brought to the attention of Hartlepool Trading Standards following a complaint from a member of the public.
Trading standards officer Brian Dinning said: "The company behind the promotion is currently under investigation by the Office of Fair Trading, which is keen to obtain statements from people who have paid money in response to letters.
"Our advice would be to never send money in response to unsolicited advertising such as this, and to never pass on details of your bank account or credit cards."
Anyone who has paid money to the company should contact Hartlepool Trading Standards on (01429) 523362
