A CAMPAIGN to ensure pensioners claim all the money they are entitled to is being launched this month.
The campaign, organised by County Durham Partnership Against Poverty, gets under way outside the Tesco supermarket, in Chester-le-Street town centre, on Friday, August 27.
It is estimated about a quarter of all pensioners do not claim the money they are entitled to under the pension Credit scheme and so an information bus will be outside the store between 10am and 3pm to encourage pensioners to make a claim.
During the coming weeks, the bus will tour villages throughout Chester-le-Street district.
Councillor John Davis, Durham County Council cabinet member, said: "Estimates suggest that 25 per cent of pensioners already in receipt of housing and council tax benefit living in Chester-le-Street have yet to make their application for pension credit."
