A NEW consultant practitioner has joined the breast unit at the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton.
Elizabeth Dean will work with mammograms, ultrasounds and tissue samples, and with patients at the symptomatic breast clinic.
She will also mentor other members of staff who wish to advance their breast screening skills.
Mrs Dean will take on some of the work traditionally carried out by a consultant radiologist, which will ensure patients are seen more quickly.
She said: "I am really pleased to be working with such a good and positive team that is committed to providing the best possible patient care.
"I am looking forward to responding to the challenges of my new role and to helping other members of staff reach their potential."
Mrs Dean is married with children and is studying for a masters degree in science at the University of Leeds.
