POLITICAL and military officials from all over the world are to attend a service commemorating the liberation of Europe at the end of the Second World War.
The Combined Service Memorial Weekend, at the Yorkshire Air Museum, in Elvington, York, will be the largest event of its kind in the UK.
It builds on the former annual Battle of Britain commemoration to incorporate the contribution of each branch of the Allied Armed Forces in the liberation of Europe.
Dignitaries from Belgium, Poland, Canada, South Africa and France are expected to attend, and organisers are confident there will also be a representative from Russia, which will be a first for the event.
Museum director Ian Reed said: "We are pleased to be chosen to host another significant international event."
It will be held on September 4 and 5 and will include a commemorative service, followed by a parade, a march past and salute.
