A RALLY that has an estimated value of £1.2m to a district is not going to receive any cash from the local council.
Last year, Ryedale District Council gave the Trackrod Rally £10,000, as well as support to the rally organisers by making the Showfield Lane depot available for scrutineering and providing staff support and a civic reception.
But councillors have decided against providing a grant for this year's event, which takes place during the first weekend in October.
Instead, the council is to give support worth £4,200 in the form of leaflet distribution, scrutineering facilities, arranging road closures, a civic reception and officer support.
Assistant chief executive John Davison said: "A balance needs to be drawn between the potential risks involved in motor sport and the benefits which are derived from the weekend of events."
