DOZENS of properties across the Yorkshire Dales will be open to the public next month.
The Heritage Opens Days 2004 initiative will see churches, museums, halls and gardens allowing free access between September 10 and 13.
The event will celebrate architecture and culture by allowing visitors to see properties that are not usually open or charge an entrance fee, said Kate Geddes, interpretation officer at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
She said: "Heritage open days are a fantastic opportunity to go behind closed doors and discover some of the best-kept heritage secrets in the Yorkshire Dales.
"The event presents an opportunity to spend a whole day or even a long weekend in the Dales, exploring some fascinating properties."
Among the buildings allowing free access will be the Dales Countryside Museum, in Hawes.
At Stainforth Youth Hostel, near Settle, volunteers will be unearthing a historic cobbled yard on September 12.
The yard was rediscovered during recent rest-oration work.
