A BADMINTON team from Wensleydale School in Leyburn came very close to winning a county tournament recently.
The under-15 girls' team narrowly lost 4-3 in Sheffield and assistant head of PE, David Rucker, described it as a remarkable achievement as the winning girls' school in Sheffield is four times larger than the one from Leyburn.
"There are 200 girls in each year group there, whereas we have only 40 pupils in year eight," he said.
The four Wensleydale girls who played at Sheffield were Carla Sunter, Annalea Airey, Christina Scarr and Rachael Hemsley.
Mr Rucker was also delighted that two other teams from the school had done very well at county level this term.
