TREES are to be tagged by a conservation group trying to make sure they remain a feature of countryside hedges.
Thirsk Community Woodlands Group is taking part in the Future for Hedge Trees campaign being run by the Tree Council. Members will be tagging young trees with brightly-coloured labels to protect them from mechanical cutters and flails.
Chairman Mike I'Anson said: "We would like to work with more landowners in identifying hedgerows where new trees can be planted and protected."
The group has a number of native trees growing in its tree nursery and is looking for appropriate sites ready for the planting season.
