A WOMAN was left in shock after a man threatened her with a syringe as she travelled on a bus.

The incident happened on the X4 bus as it travelled from Middlesbrough to Redcar, in east Cleveland, at about 5.50pm on Thursday.

The man demanded money.

He is thought to have then run from the bus into Coatham Road, Redcar, towards Redcar town centre.

He is described as about 23, tall and skinny, and was wearing a cream jacket.

Police want to speak to anyone travelling on the X4 bus at the time.

Detective Sergeant Nick Owen said: "This attack took place on a bus carrying several passengers.

"I would expect somebody on the bus witnessed the incident and I would ask them to contact Redcar police office.

"While the woman was not physically harmed, the offender has left her terribly upset. The sight of somebody threatening you with a needle must be very worrying.

"If anyone has information about the incident, please contact the police and we will endeavour to bring the offender to justice before a court, where he belongs."

Anyone with information is asked to ring (01642) 302626.
