A SHOPFITTING company in the region has won contracts worth £2m to fit out two of fashion retailer Zara's shops.

The Spanish fashion chain, which is opening a shop at the MetroCentre, Gateshead, chose Teesside company Newman Scott to carry out refurbishments.

The company has won contracts to fit out two more Zara shops, in York and Glasgow.

The move will expand Zara's network of stores across the UK to 24.

The York shop, in Spurriergate, is due to be completed early next year.

Newman Scott has been part of Zara's expansion across the UK for the past six years, having worked on sites across the country, including Nottingham, Edinburgh and four stores in London.

Dave Smiddy, managing director of Newman Scott, said: "We hope that we will continue to be an integral part of Zara's expansion in the future."
