A PENSIONER has died after being badly burnt in a fire at a residential nursing home.
Forensic investigations continued over the weekend into the cause of the blaze at St David's Nursing Home, in Lord Street, Redcar, east Cleveland, on Friday.
BUPA, which runs the home, announced yesterday that the woman who died was Dorothy Robinson, 89.
Forty-two elderly people had to be evacuated from the building after the fire broke out at about 5am.
More than 60 firefighters were needed to bring the blaze under control.
The 89-year-old, who suffered burns and other injuries, was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, and died on Saturday morning.
An elderly man, suffering from smoke inhalation, was also taken to the hospital.
Peter Ludford, director of BUPA care homes, said: "Our thoughts are with the resident's family and friends at this very difficult time.
"Our first concern is the safety of our other residents, who are all settled in alternative accommodation.
"We are working to ensure they are all comfortable and well cared for.
"We are grateful to both our members of staff and the emergency services for their prompt and professional action."
