THREE youths were arrested after a disturbance which resulted in two teenage girls being taken to hospital.
Trouble flared late last Friday when a gang of about 50 youngsters left a trail of damage in the centre of Great Ayton, North Yorkshire.
A number of shop windows were smashed and a car was damaged during the incident in High Street.
Two girls, aged 15 and 14, were taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, after being hit in the face during the incident They were treated then released.
Police were called to the scene after local people reported youths fighting in the street and windows being smashed.
Two youths were arrested in connection with alleged assaults.
A third, aged 15, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
Police said all three were released on bail.
Last night, officers said investigations into the incident were continuing.
Local councillor Frances Greenwell said there had been trouble in the village before, when windows had been smashed.
However, she said: "There was a lot more damage on this occasion than in the past. It is the talk of the village."
