A MOBILE skate park has been launched in a bid to prevent youngsters using busy public places as ramps.
The skate park will be at Stockton Sports Centre, Tilery Road, Stockton, until Friday and is open daily from 1pm to 4pm. Admission is free and the ramps are suitable for skateboards, in-line skates and BMX bikes. Helmets and protective pads must be worn and are available free at the skate park.
Calls for a mobile facility were led by Councillor Suzanne Fletcher when she raised concerns about youngsters skating in front of the Splash swimming pool and the municipal buildings.
Now, using funding from the Big Lottery Fund, Stockton Borough Council has bought the skate park after three successful trials during the Easter holidays. It will be managed by Tees Active Ltd.
Following this week's programme, there will be further free evening and weekend sessions at the skate park following an official opening during the half-term holiday in October.
