A 25-year-old Middlesbrough man was remanded in custody today charged with the murder of his wife who was killed outside her home last week.
Amir Shazad, 29, of Lothian Road, Middlesbrough, made a brief appearance at Teesside Crown Court and spoke only once to confirm his name, with the proceedings relayed to him through an interpreter.
His 25-year-old wife, Nusrat Ali, was stabbed in the garden of the home she shared with her mother and five sisters, also in Lothian Road, on August 17.
The case was adjourned today until October 22 for a plea and directions hearing.
Ms Ali wed Mr Shazad, a warehouse worker, in Pakistan in an arranged marriage but the couple had not lived together.
He came to Britain 18 months ago and moved into a house next door to his wife and her family in Lothian Road.
