They may look good enough to eat but be warned, the novelties created by Trish Judson may be a little difficult to digest.

The cakes, biscuits and fruit may look tempting, but they are best left on the plate - unless wool is your delicacy of choice.

For these little delights have never been near a supermarket or fridge, and are entirely the work of Trish and her trusty knitting needles.

The 46-year-old, who works in the finance unit at City of York Council, is a demon knitter who learnt the art from her mother when she was ten. It quickly became her favourite hobby, but she gradually tired of creating the usual scarves and jumpers.

So she turned her hand to novelty items, which now raise funds for local charities when they are sold through their shops.

Trish's work has also kept her colleagues in stitches and she even fooled them when she turned up with a full English breakfast made entirely out of wool.

However, she does not confine her talents to fake food. Her other creations have included dinosaurs, a camera, and Santas and snowmen for the festive season.

"I've been at it for a few years now and it's great fun," said Trish yesterday.

"They can be a little fiddly sometimes, but I've been knitting since I was a little girl and I've always loved doing it.
