Trading standards officers in South Tyneside have helped return hundred of thousands of pounds to dissatisfied residents in the last 12 months.
Shoppers, homeowners and motorists in South Tyneside are £375,351 better off thanks to the service, according to a report put to South Tyneside Council's ruling cabinet.
The team, which provides advice, support and a conciliation service, received around 10,000 complaints, of which 4,000 were upheld.
A council spokesman said: "The huge redress achieved by the trading standards is a remarkable success and, hopefully, will encourage more people to stand up for their consumer rights."
