Police forces in the North East are to team up with national experts to tackle the problem of alcohol-related crime and disorder.
A director of Alcohol Concern and senior government figures from the Home Office will hold a meeting with representatives of the Cleveland, Durham and Northumbria forces in Middlesbrough next month.
One aim of the meeting is to develop a strategy to encourage more sensible drinking in the North East.
Cleveland deputy chief constable Ron Hogg said: "It is going to be a meeting of minds to discuss the way forward."
