Horden pulled off one of the surprises of the FA Cup preliminary round by beating AFC Telford on Saturday -thanks to a request for a shirt.

Horden defeated the UniBond First Division club with a first-half goal, but a conversation before the match between the two club chairmen provided them with plenty of motivation.

Horden manager Eddie Freeman said: "Their chairman approached ours, and asked if it was possible for them to take a Horden shirt away with them.

"When Norman Stephens, our chairman, asked why, he was told it was because they wanted a shirt from every club they were going to beat on their Cup run.

"Norman quickly found me and told me about the conversation, and I based my pre-match team talk around that.

"We were still quite happy to send them home with a shirt after the game because it will be the only one they'll get in the Cup this season!"

Lee Dixon had an early goal disallowed for Horden, but they took the lead after 30 minutes when Andy McKenna finished off a good move with a low shot.
