VETERAN BBC local radio personality Frank Wappat was back home yesterday after spending five days in hospital recovering from a brain haemorrhage.
Mr Wappat was taken to Bishop Auckland General Hospital, County Durham, last Friday after taking ill at his home in the Weardale village of Eastgate.
His wife, Susan, said that the presenter, who is one of the longest-serving broadcasters in local radio in Britain, had been very ill.
He was forced to cancel his weekend show at BBC Radio Newcastle and a teatime presentation he was due to attend, as part of the Weardale Festival.
He is expected to be back on the airwaves this weekend.
Mr Wappat paid a special tribute to the care he received at the Bishop Auckland hosptal, saying the staff were absolutely brilliant.
