AN MP is calling for her constituents to nominate local volunteer groups for this year's Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.
More than 300 community and voluntary groups in Britain have won the award, now in its third year, which was created to mark the Queen's golden jubilee.
Vera Baird, MP for Redcar, is encouraging people to recognise volunteers who give up their time for their organisation.
"Nominating groups for a Queen's Award will give our local volunteer groups some of the recognition they deserve," she said.
"Think hard, as it would be a pity to waste the chance both to say this big thanks to people who we sometimes take for granted and to put Redcar constituency on the map."
Groups cannot nominate themselves for the award, but can be nominated by members of the public who have either benefited from an organisation's work, or seen the positive effects of its work on the community.
To nominate a volunteering group, call (0854) 000 2002, or log on to the official website at www.queensawardvoluntary.gov.uk
Alternatively, call Ms Baird's office on (01642) 471777.
