THOUSANDS more householders will join the wheelie bin brigade next week.

About 12,000 homes in Stokesley, Great Ayton, Brompton and villages surrounding these areas will start using the bins.

Hambleton District Council is introducing the system of wheeled bin collections across the district as part of its bid to increase recycling.

Residents are asked to separate waste into two bins - green for garden waste and black for household refuse - for fortnightly collection.

Last year, more than 18,000 homes in Bedale, Easingwold and Thirsk joined the scheme and recycling has risen by more than ten per cent to 24 per cent.

They are asked to leave rubbish out in sacks for the last time this week. Following that, rubbish should be placed in the wheelie bins.

The first black bin collection takes place next week, while green bin collection follows from September 20.

Collection dates are available on the website www. hambleton.gov.u
