A company has secured a £2m contract to help build three power stations in Nigeria.
Osprey Shipping, of Wallsend, North Tyneside, will be involved in the transport, marine engineering and installation of generating equipment for the power stations.
Launched nine years ago, the company was helped by UK Trade and Investment to tap into the Nigerian market. The Government-run initiative helps UK businesses invest in overseas markets.
Managing director of Osprey Shipping Pete Fletcher said: "Over two years we were able to set up a venture called West African Logistics and Engineering Services (Wales) and as a result we have now secured an order worth £2m and we are confident more will follow."
This month, a team of 15 will start work in Nigeria.
John Doolan, UK Trade and Investment's International Trade Advisor at Business Link Tyne and Wear, said: "Nigeria represents a potentially huge market for the company and we are delighted the company has made such a positive start."
