Darlington could have two new faces in their line-up for tomorrow's League Two match at Rochdale after the club were released from administration earlier this week.
Former Middlesbrough midfielder Craig Hignett signed on a free transfer from Leeds United on Wednesday, while manager David Hodgson was also hoping to bring in a new striker now that the restrictions on the size of his squad have been lifted.
Hignett, who has a good goalscoring record for a midfield player, has signed until the end of the season, with a one-year option.
Leaving administration could prove key to Darlington's hopes of climbing the table as the situation has frustrated Hodgson's attempts to boost his attacking options.
Last Saturday's 0-0 draw with early leaders Scunthorpe United at the Williamson Motors Stadium again highlighted the team's pressing need for a goalscorer.
Quakers were more than a match for their unbeaten visitors, but were unable to break through The Iron's defence.
Their own back line, with Joey Hutchinson particularly impressive, is proving to be one of the meanest in the division, suggesting that they could yet launch a promotion challenge if a solution to their striking problems could be found.
Darlington currently lie in 12th spot on nine points, ahead of tomorrow's opponents on goal difference.
Rochdale have been inconsistent thus far, but had a good 1-0 win at Grimsby Town last Saturday.
