A bank has offered a reward of up to £15,000 after a masked gang robbed staff of a substantial amount of cash early today.
A police spokesman staff were working at Barclays Bank on Ellison Street, Jarrow, at 3.30am when two masked men entered the bank.
They threatened staff before fleeing with a substantial amount of money.
A police spokesman said: "No weapons were seen or used and staff were not injured, although they were left shocked.
"Barclays Bank is offering a reward of £15,000 up to for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
"Anyone who was in the area at the time or in the days leading up to the robbery and may have witnessed anything suspicious is asked to contact detectives."
