THE last of the three agricultural shows to be held in Weardale, County Durham, takes place this weekend.
Officials of the 163rd annual Stanhope Show have laid on what they describe as a feast of fun for children today and tomorrow. Among new attractions are Tarot the jester, the Santa Fe miniature railway, a Diggerland ride and a special magic show.
Entries in all livestock classes have increased in number since last year. "But what's particularly pleasing is that the number of entries we have had for the industrial tent are well up on last year," said secretary Mike Robson.
Tomorrow, visitors can enjoy showjumping, a strongman act, gundogs, and a Kennel Club obedience show. Music will be provided by Stanhope Silver Band.
Tomorrow, there will be dog agility tests, Cumberland wrestling, a chainsaw sculptor and a farmers' market.
Admission costs £5 for adults and £2 for children and pensioners. For more information contact Mike Robson on (01388) 528642.
* Weardale Railways Ltd advises passengers wishing to travel on its heritage line to board the train at Wolsingham. Stanhope station is close to the showground and the company wishes to avoid congestion over show weekend.
