CHAMPION skaters and some of the best of the region's music talent will be staging a free celebration of urban culture this weekend.
Extreme Event, sponsored by Newcastle Building Society, is part of the Hotbed 2004 programme and will staged at Newcastle's Exhibition Park today and Sunday.
It will provide a showcase for the best skateboarders, in-line skaters and BMXers in celebration of the new skatepark.
This year's world in-line champion, Albert Hooi, and last year's title holder, Matt Watts, are flying in from the US for the event to join British Champions Si Cox and Mike Welland.
Pro-skater Mark Churchill will demonstrate his expertise on a world-class street skateboarding course alongside Pete King, Jo Habgood and Darlington twins Danny and Ronnie Callow.
The family event is also expected to draw music fans with the appearance of Maximo Park, The Guessmen, Astoria Islands, La Remedy, Sound Explosion and The Jaybirds.
