A mother-of-three qualified in just one week to become one of the first high-level teaching assistants in the country.
Jan Lewis, of Thirsk, became Northallerton College's 2,000th adult learner when she gained her literacy level two qualification.
Mrs Lewis has been an advanced teaching assistant with Carlton Miniott Community Primary School for five years. She was given the chance to become a high-level teaching assistant, but needed the qualification.
She said: "I was desperate as I only had a week to get it before term started. I only found out in July that I needed it, but with three kids and the holidays, it's hard work getting things done.
"So I rang the college and went down to do the learndirect literacy level two course. I took the hour-long online test a week later and got it."
