THE next generation of North-East pop talent will line up for a charity concert this week.

The iD Show takes place at the Lamplight Arts Centre, Stanley, on Sunday.

It has been organised by Stanley-based companies Genius Entertainment and talentSTAR and will feature 29 performers from across the region who enrolled on Genius Entertainment's iD Programme this summer. All profits from the show will go to Cancer Research.

The scheme, run from the company's new complex on Tanfield Lea Industrial Estate, aims to teach budding pop stars about performance techniques and the music industry. The performers also recorded demos.

The show will also feature talentSTAR 2004 winners Rebecca Radcliffe and Phil Campo, as well as runners-up Harmonyze, who have both signed development deals with Genius Entertainment.

The company offered to donate the profits to Cancer Research after it had to cancel a fundraising concert in June at the last minute.

The event had been due to take place as part of Stanley Fun Day, but the company had to rethink after the date of the talentSTAR finals had to be moved. The Pop Idol-style roadshow visited more than 40 schools and colleges across the region, with performers playing to more than 20,000 people.

The finals were supposed to take place at Newcastle Opera House, but the venue closed without warning.

Genius had to move its show to Newcastle City Hall, and the only available date was the same day as the fun day. Adam Chetter, from Genius Entertainment, said; "We see it fitting to give all profits to the charity for this show as we were disappointed we were unable to support them in June."
