WORK is under way on a £50,000 car park.
The seafront car park is being built by Hartlepool Borough Council on land next to Newburn Bridge, in Hartlepool.
It follows last year's improvement of a 600-metre stretch of promenade as part of a £2.5m sea defence scheme.
The car park contract has been won by local engineering firm Seymours and construction is expected to take about four weeks.
About a quarter of the 25 parking spaces will be reserved for disabled people, giving them easy access to the rebuilt promenade.
Last year's improvement of the promenade and sea wall was the third and final phase of a Government grant-aided initiative that began in the early 1990s.
The work linked previous improvement schemes carried out by Hartlepool Council and the former Teesside Development Corporation.
It means people can now walk, jog or cycle all the way from Seaton Carew to Hartlepool Marina.
