THE organisers of a new gardening show are delighted with the response to the event.
Shincliffe Show was held on Saturday in the hall at Shincliffe Primary School, and attracted more than 550 entries from residents of the parish, which includes Shincliffe Village and High Shincliffe.
The show was staged with grants from the community assocation, the parish council and from Durham City Council - which offered money to local events after axing its own autumn produce show.
Speaking for the show, Christine Warburton said: "We had entries right across the class categories - fruit, vegetables, arts and crafts and children's.
"It is amazing, absolutely phenomenal. We thought we would have to enter every one of the classes ourselves, but we had loads of entries.
"It looked beautiful because there were so many wonderful displays from people's gardens.''
Mrs Warburton said the financial support was invaluable in getting the event off the ground.
Enough money was raised to ensure the show can go ahead next year.
